The Minuet. This engraving after a painting by Leopold Schmutzler (1864-1940) appeared in the German Illustrated News in the year 1894.

“A minuet, the dance in which male and female can display in equal measure innate and acquired charm, sufficed to put a large, elegant society in the most cheerful mood; gallantry still stood in full bloom…”
Different from this wood engraving, the painting by Schmutzler was very colourful.
The gentleman is wearing yellow pants; the young lady is dressed in sparkling pink.

Das Menuett. Dieser Stich nach einem Gemälde von Leopold Schmutzler (1864-1940) ist in der Deutschen Illustrierten Zeitung im Jahr 1894 erschienen.
Der Text zum Bild lautet in der Zeitung:
“Eine Menuett, der Tanz, bei dem Weiblein und Männlein gleichermaßen angeborene und angelernte Anmut entfalten konnte, genügte, um eine große elegante Gesellschaft in die heiterste Stimmung zu versetzen; noch stand die Galanterie in voller Blüte…”
Anders als dieser Holzstich war das Gemälde von Schmutzler sehr farbenfroh. Gelbe Hosen trägt der Herr, die junge Dame ist in glänzendem Rosa gekleidet.
